A Chinkara or Indian Gazelle (Gazella gazella) takes shade under a Khimp bush (Leptadenia pyrotechnica) on a hot afternoon at the Desert National Park, on the outskirts of Jaisalmer.
Chinkaras are well adapted to the hostile conditions of the desert and can go without water for many days, deriving moisture from herbage and dew.
