Khejari Tree     N a t u r e s c a p e s

A Khejari (Prosopis cineraria) tree on top of a village mound illustrates its true sculpturesque form.

The Khejari is one of the most common tree species of Rajasthan and almost always a delight to see! Many species of insects and birds use it as their home, its pods are eaten as vegetable and valued as fodder. Its leaves make good fodder for goats. During scarcity of food or famine, its bark is powdered, mixed with flour and eaten to avoid starvation.
