N a t u r e s c a p e s A variety of waterbirds—resident and migratory—throng Mansarovar lake at Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur. Spotting more than 100 species of birds here on a good winter day is no feat at all though the number and variety of birds is directly dependent on the amount of monsoon rainwater the park receives every year. Amidst great controversy in year 2004, KNP was not allowed to have its usual quota of water from a nearby dam, which was instead diverted for agricultural purposes. Good rains saved the park in 2005 but the controversey is far from resolved, putting a big question mark on the future of this park. Photo date: March 2006 |
