N a t u r e s c a p e s Pond Skater or Water Strider at Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur. These insects rely on the surface tension of water to walk on top of it. They have six legs wherein the front two are used for predation and the four long legs are used to spread their weight evenly over the water film. (Actual size of this insect is about a fourth of that shown here.) One of the (least noticed) highlights of this park is the staggering variety and population of insects, a big reason for birds to come here. KNP is a great example of an ecosystem at work.
