Tourists at Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur     N a t u r e s c a p e s

Visiting tourists go through olden day records of waterfowl shoots on inscribed plaques at Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur.

Originally built as a hunting reserve for (and by) the erstwhile Maharaja of Bharatpur and his guests, KNP was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1956 thanks largely to efforts of legendary ornithologist Salim Ali
. In 1972 its status was upgraded to a National Park. It was designated as a Ramsar Site in 1981 and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
