Thar Desert     N a t u r e s c a p e s

Khimp (Leptadenia pyrotechnica)—a bush that remains green almost all year round—contrasts with the smooth and sculpturesque form of the Thar Desert, on the outskirts of Jaisalmer.

The Thar Desert, also known as the Great Indian Desert, is located in western India and southeastern Pakistan. Most part of this desert (about 60%) lies in Rajasthan, and extends a bit into Haryana and Punjab in the north and Gujarat in the south. The desert is 805 km long and about 485 km wide. This desert is what Rajasthan is usually identified with.
